Score Free Dumplings And Hoodies At Fed Square To Celebrate Melbourne International Student Week

5th May 2022
Written by: Caitlin Booth

Melbourne, with its rich cultural diversity, is an incredible city to visit, whether it’s for a week, a month or a year. It’s even better with a little local knowledge of the best things to do, see and eat.

It’s for this reason that the inaugural Melbourne International Student Week (MISW), running from 7-13 May, is throwing an epic celebration to share the best bits of the city with international and domestic students alike—including some pretty sweet giveaways.

During the Opening Weekend on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8, Fed Square will be buzzing with live performances from the Djirri Djirri dance group, music from Aaron Lee, plus live comedy performances by Annie Louey and He Huang. Get involved with interactive dancing by Melbourne Salsa or boogie along to some K-Pop as you explore all of the tasty food on offer from around the globe.

If you want to score a free feed, head down to Fed Square on Saturday, May 7 to pick up one of 1,000 serves of free dumplings up for grabs. If there’s a fresh hoodie shaped hole in your wardrobe, you might also be lucky enough to fill it with one of 800 free hoodies being handed out across the weekend—get along both days to double your chances. Bring your Student ID because you'll need to show it and like or follow the Melbourne International Student Week Facebook or Instagram page to get your freebies.

The event will also showcase an international student photography competition depicting the textured layers of student life in Melbourne. Budding photographers or anyone with a keen eye can head over here to check out more on how to enter the competition.

Not limited to students, the weekend event is open to anyone keen to learn a little more about the rich layers of Melbourne culture or share their local wisdom with new arrivals. It's the perfect opportunity to enjoy the city and give a little back to the international student and education community that helps make Melbourne such an inspiring and diverse place to live.

If you want to know more about how to get involved with the week-long MISW celebrations, head over here.
