If Paris and Melbourne had a love child, it would probably look a lot like Frenchie—moody lighting, loud chatter and where Champagne that flows like tap water. This Saint-Germain-des-Prés-inspired French restaurant and bar is about to inject some Parisian rebellion into Collins Street, rewriting what French dining looks (and costs) like in the city.

At Frenchie, everything—from cocktails and bubbles to buttery share plates—lands at a neat $14. Yep, really. It’s the brainchild of Julian Diprose and Lucas Boucly, the duo who’ve made waves across the ditch with their award-winning New Zealand venues. What drives them? Axing the formality, bottling French soul and proving nights out should thrum with energy.

“Champagne in sneakers” is how Diprose describes it—a space that’s social and a little unpredictable at the same time. The menu, crafted by Head Chef Sylvain Bernard (of Chez Olivier), is a playful blend of French bistro hits and modern twists, every dish made to share and best enjoyed with good company. Look forward to showstopping touches like roaming trolleys, tableside drama and the heady scent of garlic butter wafting everywhere.

And because food without fizz is only half the fun, all drinks follow suit: cocktails on tap, bubbles and beers, each priced at $14. It’s an all-night invitation to indulge without the intimidation.

Designed by Andretti Fung (of Brand Works), Frenchie’s interiors channel Parisian romance with a dose of Melbourne grit—red velvet, moody mirrors and a Moulin Rouge-meets-late-night-bar vibe that feels both nostalgic and new. It’s the kind of place made for midweek catch-ups that accidentally turn into after-hours adventures.

Bring your appetite, your friends, and maybe your dancing shoes—Frenchie’s promising Parisian spirit, Melbourne grit and not a single $15 price tag in sight.

Set to open in early 2026 at 1/15 Collins Street, Frenchie will trade Monday to Saturday from 5pm till late.
