After a few false starts for theatre in Melbourne over the past year for reasons we don’t need to discuss, Disney’s Frozen, The Hit Broadway Musical is set to open this June at the magnificent Her Majesty's Theatre.
Adapted from the hit Disney film and the original 1884 novel The Snow Queen, the fable brings a fresh—and well overdue—take to the traditions of fairy tales by breaking the mold of the male saviour, and instead focusing on the bond and dynamic of the two sisters, Elsa and Anna.
The production has some serious clout in the cast and team, too. You’ve got several Academy Award-winning songwriters behind the music and Tony Award-winning Michael Grandage or Director duties. Meanwhile, Melbourne’s very own Jemma Rix will play Elsa while Courtney Monsma takes the stage as Anna.
Presale went bonkers at the beginning of the week, and general release tickets are expected to do the same. Snap up a few seats from as little as $49.50pp.
FRIENDS The Musical is also coming to Melbourne. Check it out here.
