Laura Henshaw And Steph Claire Smith Are Bringing Somatic Movement To Cremorne
Laura Henshaw and Steph Claire Smith launched KIC over 10 years ago. What started as an ebook eventually became an app, and has since grown into so much more: a leading wellness brand and community rooted in everyday movement, mindset and nourishment rituals.
The next big step for KIC? Its first physical studio space. Opening on Saturday, 18 April, the Cremorne studio is grounded in somatic movement, an approach that centres conscious movement and leaves performance at the door. It's built entirely around presence and connection, encouraging a deeper and more meaningful approach to health.
"Our ethos at KIC has always been about moving for how you feel, rather than focusing on external appearance or the ‘after photo’," Laura Henshaw says.
"This philosophy aligns perfectly with somatic movement, which is designed to help you tune in, connect with the layers of your body, and release built-up emotions. We wanted to create a space that felt like an escape from the outside world, where you could step inside, melt away the stresses of the day and feel truly transformed from the moment you arrive. As wellness continues to evolve, we’re incredibly proud of our team for bringing this transformative form of movement to our members.”
KICStudio will run four signature classes, each grounded in somatic movement: Energise, a HIIT class balancing Pilates and low-impact movement; Power, a strength class using equipment across mat Pilates, resistance, breathwork and meditation; Unwind, a heated slow flow class guiding the nervous system through Pilates, stretchwork, breathwork and meditation; and Breathwork, a guided session using intentional breath patterns for emotional release, encouraging a lasting sense of calm.
After each class, guests can unwind in the calming community room, with plenty of space to breathe, connect with other members and sip on signature KICStudio tea blends.
To celebrate opening week, KICStudio is partnering with local brands and businesses to gift something special to everyone who attends a class:
- Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April: Refuel post-class with acai bowls and iced drinks by Blitz Bar.
- Monday 20 April: Find a self-care moment from Kit waiting on your mat, with a Workout Wash or Magnesium Oil for each guest.
- Tuesday 21 April: Five lucky members will get a two-night stay voucher for Unyoked. Every mat will also get a 20% off code for Unyoked and a KIC Goals Journal.
- Wednesday 22 April: Walk out of the studio in a brand new pair of TWOOBS BFF thongs.
- Thursday 23 April: Get a little glam as Francesca treats guests with a pair of Crystal Wave Huggies or an Aurora Bracelet.
- Friday 24 April: Find a dreamy house-blend oil or a cute cap from Sense of Self on each mat.
Opening at 93 Cubitt Street, Cremorne on Saturday 18 April, KICStudio is now open to bookings, with memberships available from $65 per week and class packs starting at $25 per class.
