Four Of The Country’s Top Middle Eastern Chefs Are Bringing One-Off Menus To Maha Bar

By Rick Stephens

Maha’s Shane Delia either never sleeps, or has somehow tapped into an eighth day of the week. In fact, rarely a week goes by when hospitality’s high achiever doesn't plate up a new project, venue or initiative.

The latest comes as a four-part dining series at his recently(ish) opened haunt, Maha Bar, where the country’s shining Middle Eastern chefs are set to take on the kitchen and showcase the evolution of their cuisine.

First up is Brisbane’s Ben Williamson of Agnes, whose one-off menu will draw focus from his travels through the Middle East tonight, Tuesday 18 May (order up on the Turkish Crumpets). On week two, Paul Farag from Sydney’s Nour will don the chef whites and share with you his Egyptian heritage while not forgetting his zero-waste ethos.

Coming into the first Tuesday of June, Delia is calling in another of Brisbane’s finest, Adam Wolfers of Gerard’s Bistro, where the short-rib shawarma will no doubt only be topped by Wolfers’ take on the Golden Gaytime.

Rounding out the stacked line-up on Tuesday 8 June is heavy-hitter and friend of Delia, Tom Sarafian (Little Andorra), who’ll be bringing his unique style of cooking to the Maha Bar kitchen along with that spanner crab and prawn hummus that Melbourne won’t shut up about—and for good reason.

The series is one part of many moving pieces in showcasing Middle Eastern cuisine and the chefs behind the scenes in Australia.

“This is a really special event that I am excited to bring to Victoria, it is proud Middle Eastern chefs taking the best produce and pairing it with brilliant cooking,” said Delia.

Bookings for the four dates, including tonight's with Ben Williamson, can be made here.
