A 30,000sqm Food And Booze Precinct Is Opening In Moorabbin’s Ex-Cigarette Factory

By Kate Fleming

Melbourne’s southeast suburb Moorabbin has largely been known for its airport, but there’s a new kid on the block that’s about to redefine this bayside burb. Say hello to Morris Moor, the $100m development combining foodie destinations, retail experiences, co-working spaces, and a touch of inner city culture to the burbs across an impressive 30,000sqm.

Topping the bill is brewing heavyweight Stomping Ground Brewing Co. with their 1250sqm pub fitout complete with a huge beer garden. In total, the sprawling brewery will seat around 450 people while 26 on the pour will keep them satiated.

As you’ve no doubt assumed, the brewers have occupied one of the larger spaces in the precinct, and they’ve certainly had their way with it. Inside, you’ll notice subtle nods to their OG home in Collingwood, while menu favourites like their schnitzel, steaks and pizzas are set to make a triumphant cameo at the new digs.

Cult burger joint Royal Stacks are also fitting out a new 90s, American diner-style venue complete with an in-house podcasting booth. They’ll be serving up their fan-favourite signature burgers, curly fries and shakes.

Another foodie favourite joining the ranks is the delectable patisserie Penny for Pound. As suppliers to some of Melbourne’s best cafes, including Axil Coffee Roasters, Code Black Coffee and Venezanio Coffee Roasters, they’re lifting their game with their own dedicated patisserie, gelateria and 100-seat cafe. We’d recommend trying their award-winning crème brûlée doughnut—no further explanation needed.

In addition to the foodie hubs, there will also be The Light Practise yoga studio. It’ll be a calm and tranquil place for you to unwind with their range of yoga, mindfulness and meditation classes.

The whole development will have an industrial feel that’s true to the roots of the property as the former Philip Morris manufacturing site. Some of the original architecture has been maintained and restored to complement the modern touches with a hint of luxe as well. There will also be plenty of outdoor dining and green spaces to enjoy year-round.

As it stands, both Stomping Ground Brewery and The Light Practise are open for business, while their stablemates are slated to open over the course of 2021.

In other news, check out the winter program for Fed Square complete with outdoor cinema and winter playground.
