After years of seeing fares climbing incrementally—just enough to have a whinge to your mate about it while you take the number 11 into Fitzroy—PTV has just announced a three month 30% discount period on off-peak train, tram and bus services.

It comes into effect on Sunday 31 January, and commuters wanting to cash in will need to do so from 9:30am to 4pm, and after 7pm in zone one—and zone one and two—on weekdays for the discount to apply. You’ll also need to be using Myki Money and DO NOT FORGET TO TOUCH OFF. Just in case you forgot that one.

The discount comes alongside a change in timetables, with PTV adding 450 new daily services to give Melburnians more space on public transport (hello, COVID-Normal) and more opportunities to travel around the city. The changes also mark the first step in preparing the city for the Melbourne Metro Tunnel—expect changes to some city loop services and connecting lines.
