It’s 2500 litres of continuous rainfall, where contemporary art, technology and nature collide in a multi-sensory experience—and you’re in the centre. Random International’s Rain Room is returning to Melbourne for its third season, on Wednesday 1 November.
Privately owned by Louis Li, the famed curator and hotelier behind Mornington Peninsula’s Jackalope Hotel and Art Collection, this dynamic installation has been exhibited in London, New York, Shanghai, Los Angeles, and Sharjah.
“Having launched the first season in 2019, Rain Room continues to be our most ambitious curation to date, a highlight in the Jackalope Art Collection,” explains Louis.
Rain Room’s technology puts you in control—it senses your movements, allowing you to walk through a 1000-litres-per-minute downpour completely untouched. The water transcends through the steel grated floor, to be recirculated once again.
“It is completely immersive and allows you to remove yourself from the outside world for a brief period, engaging in a visceral and emotive experience,” says Louis.
For a limited time, St Kilda’s Jackalope Pavilion, designed by March Studio, will be Rain Room’s only location in the Southern Hemisphere. Situated above an industrial-looking car park, the building’s stark-white geometric architecture turns heads.
Tickets are on sale from Thursday 12 October, for more information click here.
