Section 8 Is Turning Fifteen, And They’re Throwing A Four-Day Party To Celebrate

Back in 2006, two shipping containers were transformed into Melbourne’s OG pop up bar in Chinatown, and now 15 years down the line they’re still standing—cue the Elton John song.

To celebrate fifteen years of booze and banter, Section 8 is putting on a whopper long weekend party starting this Thursday 1 April. They’re going to have live painting, projection mapping, laneway markets and sets from over 55 Melbourne-based artists. It’ll be four days and nights of festivities for this iconic bar that’s fifteen years young.

To mark the occasion, Section 8 has paired up with the coolest art collectives, Fort Heart and B-Side Gallery, who have curated live murals, exhibited work and the market. Live artists include Creature Creature, Gonketa, OJ Kush and Simbiotic.Vision. As for tunes, live performers include Afro-funk outfit Cool Out Sun, Tokyo-born violinist Elle Shimada, Sensible J and MZRIZK from PBS and the emerging talent Sadiva plus loads more.

It wouldn’t be a party without booze, so they’ve reeled in gin experts Bombay Sapphire and local favourites Kaiju Brewing to help in the beverage department.

Like any great party, entry is free. Turn up bright and early or be a cool kid who rocks up halfway through, either way, there’s plenty to keep the good times rolling. Section 8’s birthday bash runs from Thursday 1 April at 3pm to Easter Sunday 4 April. Check out the event page for all the details and the full lineup.
