Since its establishment way back in 1863, the Studley Park Boathouse has grown to be one of Melbourne’s most popular landmarks. Whether it be locals from around the corner meeting for a casual lunch at the cafe, or tourists rowing their boat down the Yarra, the historic attraction has undoubtedly fulfilled its purpose.
After 160 years, however, it's time to wave goodbye to the distinctive burgundy roof and iconic cream-coloured wooden walls with the establishment undergoing a major $5.8 million renovation. Opening to visitors this autumn, the new Studley Park Boathouse is set to bring a brand-new entertainment precinct to the city of Melbourne inspired by Victoria’s vast parklands and love of dynamic hospitality.
After extensive construction, the venue has had a significant modern reinterpretation to its architecture. The freshly painted green, grey and white building leads out to a multi-level outdoor deck extended to the water’s edge, introducing a refreshed riverside dining experience for guests to enjoy.
The new cafe will offer an easy-going, casual service to its diners, including takeaway options and breakfast on weekends, making it the perfect spot to refuel those energy levels after a hefty kayaking session or a long hike.
Those looking for a lengthier dining experience can set themselves up at the modern restaurant and bar, serving up a menu celebrating rich produce from local growers with a seasonal twist. And, if you’re looking for a no-fuss feed, grab a woodfired pizza from the new pizzeria and finish with a scoop of ice cream from the pop-up gelato cart.
Try out something different and take your dining into the lush parklands with a picnic by the riverside. You won’t need to worry about packing your own basket , as there are several picnic packages & blankets up for grabs on-site, as well as “Row-sé” packages with boat hire.
Vino-lovers will adore the new drinks offering, which includes curated wine-tasting paddles sourced by Group Head of Wine, Matt Skinner. The paddles comprise of five wines for $30 from small-scale boutique Victorian producers from within 100km of the venue andchange every season. A generous wine list will also be available by the glass, as well as signature cocktails and charcuterie plates to graze on.
Anticipated to be an in-demand destination for events, The Studley Park Boathouse is set to host a dynamic line-up of pop-ups and live entertainment for visitors to get in the groove. You too can be a host, with the venue also offering a range of wedding & event options catering for groups of up to 300 people.
