After Several Years Pending Approval, Melbourne’s Mammoth Surf Park Has Been Given The Green Light

The humble south-eastern suburb of Dingley Village will soon be home to a state-of-the-art wave park. The project, pending State Government approval, has since been given the green light after a five-year wait when it was initially pitched in 2019.

The park, known as SurfnPlay Aqua Park, will be the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere, pumping out up to six waves per minute and as high as six feet with sectioned areas for beginners to your everyday Mick Fanning.

Along with the wave park as a major drawcard, SurfnPlay intends to appease big kids and little ones alike with several water jet-powered slides and water tunnels.

After its initial lodgement for the mammoth project five years ago, the Pellicano Group has addressed several items raised by key parties involved. What’s resulted is 25% more landscaping in its design and double the amount of solar panels planned to power SurfnPlay Aqua Park.

The technology being used to create waves at such size and frequency comes from WhiteWater West, who is currently building a similar park in France. Once completed, Dingley Village’s waterpark will be the one of the only other places you’ll be able to find these manmade waves.
