BYO Chair, A Waterside Outdoor Cinema Is Opening On The Williamstown Docks This Week

By Rick Stephens

An outdoor cinema by the Williamstown docks.

One of Melbourne’s most cherished independent cinemas, The Sun Theatre, is setting up shop with a second location in the Gantry Plaza at Seaworks Williamstown.

It’s dubbed the Shore Cinema by The Sun Theatre, and they’re kicking things off Wednesday 13 January with a screening of The Personal History of David Copperfield followed by a grip of indie flicks, classics and homegrown productions alike.

There are several seating and ticketing options for you to kick back on. Take your pick from beanbags, banana lounges fit for two (hello, couples night), grass seating, and, you can even bring your own if you prefer—and yes, for those wondering, the Sun’s famous top-notch choc tops are available.

Your usual suspects like soda and popcorn are of course available, but those needing something a little more substantial can order up on a meal from the surrounding restaurants and booze from the Pirate's Tavern within the precinct.

Further program highlights include The Dry starring Eric Bana, Wes Anderson’s stop motion magnum opus, Aisle of Dogs and the highly anticipated High Ground. Hit the link for the full program which runs from this week until April.

Once you’re done with your movie, check out the NGV’s free after-dark parties.
