Every year you promise yourself you’ll be prepped, organised and on-the-ball…and yet, here we are and you've got nothing planned. Yep, Father’s Day is right around the corner. Sunday 2 September, in fact. 

If you’re freaking about Father's Day in Melbourne, don’t worry, we’ve got you. Book in any of these events, buy some novelty socks, and you'll be the Golden Child in no time.

Pontoon 'Lambwhiches'

Just watch Dad's eyes light up with this one. Pontoon, St Kilda’s fave beachside bar, is putting on a treat this Father's Day with brand-spanking-new $10 lambwhiches—tender lamb straight off the bone and smothered in mint sauce. They're available all day, so you can go back for seconds (or thirds). Good for the casual Dad who doesn't want a fuss.

Fried Chicken Brunch At Belle’s

Look, we’re sure he appreciates the effort, but we'd recommend skipping brekky in bed and taking Dad for a breakfast he’ll actually enjoy. Veto the smashed avo for the three key W’s in life—wings, waffles and whiskey. You get all three at Belles Hot Chicken this Father's Day. Chow down at lamb or crispy-skinned chicken and waffles, and then wash it all down with the Belles Smoked Maple Buffalo Old Fashioned.

Father’s Day Roast At Builder's Arms 

Father's Day falls on a Sunday this year, so why not treat Dad to a classic Sunday roast? The Builder's Arms is doing a cracker. Start the lunch off of on a high—the first beer is free for all Dads—and then keep the ball rolling with Yorkshire puds, glazed carrots, beef-fat potatoes and an O’Connor rump roast.

Seriously Shiraz Festival

Gear up and make your way down to the Grampians this Father's Day (come on, it's only a two-hour drive from the CBD). The Seriously Shiraz Festival is back with a vengeance. Celebrate the region's epic wineries with tastings, wine-making classes, live music and other events, and maybe snag a bottle or two for an easy gift for Dad.

Free Coffee At Good Times Milk Bar

Free coffee sounds like Dad all over, right? Well the crew at Good Times in Bentleigh are slinging a free cuppa (tea or coffee) with every Father's Day booking this weekend. Lock in a table and tuck into one of the best chilli scrambles we've had all year. Dad will flipping love it.

Bloke’s High Tea

For Mother’s Day, the classic high tea goes down a treat. Well, hey, guess what? You can recycle the same trick for Dad too. Just swap the hotel setting and for a Searoad ferry, dainty finger sandwiches for some greasy sliders, and hot tea for a paddle of beer. Sounds like a cracker of an arvo.

Spend the day with Pa and treat him to a rocking, four-course degustation at Yagiz, a Toorak Turkish treat (try saying that five times fast). There's optional wine pairings with each course too. Bingo Bottomless Brunch

You might be booking this boozy bingo sesh more for yourself, but we won’t tell Dad…Tokyo Tina is chucking a Father’s Day brunch + bingo party (be careful not to make any retirement house jokes, people). We're talking TT's signature food and bottomless Bloody Marys for $69 bucks. Helpful tip: the more bevvies you drink, the tricker it gets to play bingo.

Slow-Cooked Sundays At Etta

Etta, a Brunswick fave, is continuing their slow-cooked Sundays with a Father’s Day special—using the iconic smoker, Green Egg BBQ, to serve up slow-cooked meats (and veggies, if Dad's into that sort of thing). Expect suckling pork skewers and short ribs, with a whole bunch of sides and sweets. Dad will be rolling home by the end of that one.

Pie Tea

Forget high tea, treat your Dad to a good hearty Pie Tea. (He’s sure to enjoy the good Dad pun as well). It's all happening at Mary Eats Cake in Montrose. You get pork sliders, pies (obvi), sausage rolls, wedges, and raspberry mousse cake for something sweet, plus three bottles of Little Creatures pale ale.

Father’s Day Feast

Want to cement your space as Golden Child? Take Dad to Coombe’s Clock Tower Restaurant for a three-course meal he won’t forget in a hurry, all with stunning winery views. For dessert, there’s the iconic Peach Melba (of course). You might be tempted, but just between us, we’ve heard some *great* things about the chocolate brownie.

Figo Go-Go

If your Dad has an appetite (the type that goes ‘Where’s the rest of my meal?’ at high-class restaurants), take him here. The Elwood Italian eatery is putting on a Figo Go-Go for Father’s Day, all-you-can-eat with unlimited gelato. The pizza here is so damn good you might be able to skimp on the actual present (actually, don’t be that person, you should probably still buy him a ratchet set or something).
