The Verdict
If it's authentic Italian cuisine you're after, it really doesn't get much better than 1889 Cucina Povera. Tucked away on Scotchmer Street in Fitzroy North, this gem of a restaurant dishes up traditional Italian pizzas (made with a light, thin base of course!), melt-in-your-mouth pastas made fresh on site, and tasty desserts including tiramisu and Nutella pizza. Using a combination of fresh, seasonal local produce and imported ingredients (cos sometimes you can't substitute that special sumthin' sumthin' from overseas!), the 1889 Cucina Povera team create some of the best Italian food in Melbourne. You'd be silly not to go!
