The Verdict
One of Melbourne’s most iconic pubs, the Albert Park Hotel, has reopened after a massive restoration project.
Set to open just prior to lockdown laws coming into play, the century-old pub has revealed its hefty renovation across the entire venue and new menu from head chef Karloong Lee.
As with many Victorian pubs, there are several spaces: the front bar, the late-night vibes upstairs lounge and the restaurant known as Happy Valley, which draws its focus on Chinese cuisine.
The front bar menu covers off the classics like calamari and fried rice, though Lee has taken the liberty to create a menu that’s as bold as the locale’s reincarnation in the restaurant. Highlights include the Yellowfin tuna delicately doused in orange and sesame dressing, the crispy Eugowra quail with Szechuan pepper salt, and Char Sui salmon with soft fried hens’ egg.
The space has been designed by Six Degrees Architects and stylist Anna Roberts, who has paired the historic brickwork with local and original artefacts to create a space that reference’s the building’s heritage whilst not forgetting the necessary modern sensibilities.
The Albert Park Hotel is reopen now. Book out an evening to explore one of Melbourne’s most-loved pubs to its fullest.
