The verdict
Amelia Shaw is a shining light situated above Brunswick's Retreat Hotel and is named after the hotel's first female licensee, way back in 1842. Decor is 60s swing, with hand painted geometric murals, Japanese hotel lobby light fixtures and art deco furnishing. Cocktails are their main game, and they focus on using Australian fruits, herbs and spices to jazz up their martinis, as well as favouring Australian-made spirits. Come on the right night and you'll get a face full of cabaret and burlesque - fitting in with the vaudeville vibe. Amelia Shaw is open Thursday to Sunday, however we strongly recommend that you make reservations ahead of time as there is a limited seating!
