The Verdict

Highett favourite, AM PM, have been busy lately. Not only did they refurb their cafe space on Highett Rd, they launched a new menu at the same time.

If you haven't been to AM PM before, the space is pretty stunning, especially after the renno—a super mod fit-out with turquoise-folded bar, white counter tops, blonde timber highlights and a huge metal ceiling installation, complete with a canopy of dangling pendant lights.

Our favourite seats are up at the high bar facing the window, where you can suck back strong lattes and indulge in some people-watching.

The new brekky menu is pushing all our buttons, too. Gingerbread hotcakes with grilled apples, poached prunes, vanilla ricotta and caramelised walnuts. Smashed av' with spring radishes, goat’s feta and macadamia dukkha. Even a white bean cassoulet for winter, complete with hunks of tender speck and baked free-range eggs. Did we mention the panettone french toast with summer berries, orange cream, maple and honeycomb on their summer menu? Yeah, our work here is done.

The food morphs again for lunch, with heftier plates flying out the pass (think Wagyu cheeseburgers, roast cauliflower risotto or chicken breast with Jerusalem artichokes and harissa carrots (NOM). After 4pm the place shifts gear again, turning into an evening tapas and wine bar. (Basically, locals are being spoiled rotten.)

Keep an eye on the AM PM social channels too. The guys are planning some interactive wine events with top-notch local growers later in the year. Watch this space.
