The Verdict

This creatively named Carlton café boasts a simple menu which judging by its small, dedicated following of locals, is definitely hitting a sweet spot. The breakfast menu is dominated by baked eggs with a variety of fillings, including chorizo, tomato, black pudding and cheese.

Lunch is an equally straightforward affair, with crispy Panini’s filled with fresh ingredients like roast beef, caramelised onion, fontina, dijion, mayo and lettuce. There is a small list of wines and beers available and since you probably only spent a tenner on lunch, we think it’s most appropriate to order a glass or two.

The space is laid-back and homely, with mismatched chairs, low hanging lights and a collage of photos covering one wall. We reckon Animal Orchestra will trump any orchestra you’ve listened to.
