The Verdict

Melbourne's bayside suburbs are booming. And as people flock to buy houses a little further south than usual, amazing cafes, restaurants, and bars are following them.

You'll find Applehead Deli just off the Nepean Highway on Latrobe Street in Mentone. You'd be hard-pressed to not see if while stuck in traffic while driving down the highway.

The deli is named for operators Denis and Liz' applehead chihuahua, Macaroni, along with the fact that the deli itself is inspired by the delis of the Big Apple, New York City.

At Applehead Deli you'll find a range amazing sandwiches that you can eat in or take away. A classic pastrami sandwich is definitely a highlight on the menu, featuring cheddar, deli mustard, slaw, and house mayo. There are also excellent deli-style breakfast options like the trio latkes, served with sour cream and apple sauce.

If you're in a hurry, head to the fridge inside where you can pick up pre-prepared sandwiches, cold brew coffee, or juice to take on the journey into work with you. All sandwiches are buttered with local dairy St David's butter—keeping the Melbourne love strong.

Applehead Deli is open from 6am every week day.
