The Verdict
#Burgerlove has a long and proud history stretching back into the mists of time (well, around 1994). In those days they were cooking epic patties at the cult burger joint Cafe 51, the hidden gem of Melbourne’s burger nascent scene.
The burger bar as we know it today really took off in 2011, when they re-branded as #Burgerlove. These guys were cooking ridiculous quad stacks before it was cool. They thrived through the arrival of 8Bit, Huxtaburger and the brioche revolution, and they’re still turning out some of the best burgers in town.
There are three stores, with Prahran being the newest, but the menu’s the same wherever you go. You could start with something modest and sensible, like the Cheeky Cheese (beef patty, double cheese, pickles and a range of condiments), but really this place is all about the OTT. Scan your eyes down until they rest on the Meataxe, one of #Burgerlove’s signature stacks: a beef patty, crispy southern style fried chicken, bacon, double American cheddar, onion straws, two jalapeno poppers, lettuce, house-made chipotle and XXX BBQ sauce. Holy mother of god.
Sides-wise, we recommend the new Mac Bites (deep fried cheese and jalapeno-stuffed mac n cheese balls) or the Heartstarter, a bacon-wrapped Nutella doughnut. We shit you not. Vegans, don't fret either. Burgerlove are one of the few places in town slinging the Beyond Meat vegan burgers. They're actually pretty damn tasty.
#Burgerlove are pretty open that the inspiration for their freaky constructions comes from the customers themselves. They have a long-running in-house burger creation program (#buildyourownburger) and they’re always looking for new ideas. Basically, if big stacks are your thing, this place is going to rock your world.
