The Verdict
Just 15-minutes east of the CBD you’ll find one of the city’s most mouth-watering newcomers—Butcher & Vine in Hawthorn.
Sitting pretty in the iconic old Beehive Hotel along Barkers Road, the premises have been lovingly refreshed to complement the venue’s heritage. Offering expansive arched windows and warm wooden interiors, it’s the perfect spot for a quiet long-lunch or romantic evening date.
As the name suggests, Butcher & Vine serves up the finest meats, expertly matched with delicious drops of vino. Helmed by co-owners and chefs Richard Lawrence and Mehdi Amili, who together boast an impressive catalogue of restaurant experience, we guarantee you’re in good hands when dining here.
The team is all about keeping it simple, highlighting local produce and ingredients using expert cooking techniques like flame grilling over charcoal. When it comes to the menu, expect a selection of top-grade meats complemented with seasonal sides and moreish share-plates.
We’re talking a curated selection of premium grass-fed Galloway Beef and platinum grade King Valley Wagyu. You can also take your pick from the likes of in-house smoked beef rib with BBQ sauce, flame-grilled marinated spatchcock or market fish. Pair your meat with a wild roquette, parmesan and fennel salad, charred broccolini with toasted almonds or roast kipfler rosemary potatoes.
When it comes to the wine list, it’s nothing short of impressive. The 16-page drinks menu has everyone covered, featuring a selection of award-winning Australian drops and international bottles, expertly crafted by renowned sommelier Federico Bianco. And it doesn't have to end there—you can even take a taste of Butcher & Vine home with their wines, meats, deli and cheese selection available to purchase.
We’ll let you in on a little secret too, the team has been working tirelessly to get their Hampton outpost up and running, set to grace the south Melbourne ‘burb in late 2021. Watch this space.
If your tastebuds are already tingling, book an evening at Butcher & Vine here, or peruse their takeaway menu should you need to bring the delicious vibes home.
