The Verdict

French classics are being taken up a notch by Café De La Ville. Serving some of the best French food Melbourne has to offer, this is the perfect place to grab a feed, or snag a pastry if you’re on the go!

Just past the corner of Chapel Street and Toorak Road, this southside gem will have you rethinking what you thought you knew about a French feast. Lush wallpaper and plush armchairs deck out the café, and shiny pastries gleam at the front of the café. Café De La Ville makes you feel as if you have been transported to a café tucked away in a Parisian arrondissement, croissants and all.

For a truly drool-worthy experience, we recommend the three-cheese waffle with streaky bacon. It’s both gooey and crunchy, and will have you scraping the plate for more. If you’re feeling like something a little lighter, try the salmon tartare and be amazed by the team's stunning plating skills.

They even have their own house blend espresso, as well as a bunch of smoothie and iced tea options, so their extensive drinks list will please even the snobbiest of French-loving folks. Buttery croissants and oozy caramel and jam doughnuts line the display, so we’re sure you’ll be salivating over their selection. Yep, we found making a pastry choice just as difficult as you will.
