The Verdict

It's seen plenty in its tenure on Victoria and O’Connell Street in North Melbourne and now after being lovingly restored, the Central Club Hotel is set to usher in a whole new age.

Historic, storied, and part of the streetscape, the near 150yo pub's recent revamp celebrates the original structure and design of the building—from the hotel's original tiles to the hardwood Jarrah that's lined throughout.

A nostalgic celebration of its lineage, the public bar still retains all of its authentic charms but now with the added benefit of 12 different beer taps. Pouring each night is a mix of local craft beers to tried and tested favourites and even the inclusion of Guinness.

On the dining front, it's an amalgamation of pub standards done well, from quality steak cuts sourced from Hagen's to golden-crunched schnitzels to a selection of Italo-fused dishes inspired by head chef, Alessandro Carestia (Da Noi). His influence on the menu is reflected in the hand-made cavatelli with black garlic, pumpkin and sage to the blue swimmer crab linguine.
