The Verdict

There’s no arguing that Melbourne’s CBD is filled with some seriously impressive dining venues. As you head to the top end of Flinders Lane you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to fine dining and up-to-the-minute, on-trend restaurants. Which is all well and good, but not so great if you’re after something a bit more low-key that doesn’t compromise on quality.

Enter: Collins Quarter. Situated on—you guessed it—Collins Street, Collins Quarter is a venue with many moving parts. A front bar, a restaurant, the best beer garden you’ll find in Melbourne and a private dining room—the venue is spacious and extensive. Collins Quarter has an appreciation for top-notch pub food and truly understands how important ambience is.

Though Collins Quarter is at the top end of town and calls itself a pub, there’s no identity crisis here. This gastro-pub knows exactly what it’s trying to do, and it does it damn well: great pub food and an atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome.

Collins Quarter is a relaxed affair where everyone is welcome; there’s no dress code and you’re welcome to sit wherever takes your fancy. The venue itself is all class and we challenge you to find a better beer garden anywhere.

The food menu is exactly what you’ve been looking for—it reads like fine dining, it tastes like fine dining, but you can enjoy it without the fanfare. Our picks? The kingfish crudo to start is a must, as is the grilled octopus and the bourbon spitchcocked chicken. You’re in safe hands when it comes to sweets as well—the desserts are all completely drool-worthy.

If you’re simply popping in for a drink and a something quick, there’s an extensive bar menu perfect for grazing.

Honestly, we haven’t found another pub like it.
