The verdict

Sick of travelling across town for her weekly grocery shop, Meneka Premkumar took things into her own hands, opening The Common Good Ethical Grocer in Hawthorn in mid 2013. Step inside the doors and you'll be greeted with a smile and an abundance of fresh, healthy, organic and, above all, ethically-produced products and produce: from fruit, vegies, dairy and meat, to cereals, snacks, cleaning, beauty and baby products. Meneka is a passionate advocate of clean living, and you can be confident that anything you lay your hands on meets her stringent standards. The fitout is in line with the company ethos - all items used were second-hand, found, or reclaimed, including the fabulous front counter, crafted in part from an old boat.
