The Verdict
Having earned their stripes at the famed Rockpool Group, two of Melbourne's best sommeliers have opened their own cellar and bar in the inner north gem of Collingwood. Comptoir, meaning counter in French is a new casual wine bar, serving up local and international names in a cosy venue seating only 45.
Headed up by David Lawler and Tim Sacklin, the list focuses on Victorian and Australian wines, with a short list available by-th-glass to be enjoyed with cheese, charcuterie, or their plat du jour. Blurring the lines between retail and hospitality, the cellar will also sell wines by the bottle to either leisurely enjoy in the relaxed space, or to be taken away to make a home-cooked meal that extra bit special.
