The Verdict
Just when you think Melbourne might be getting over its doughnut obsession...
Welcome to Dashing Donuts, the city’s new carb-loaded sugar palace.
You’ll find this place in Chadstone Shopping Centre, near the new food emporium, which is a pretty smart play. The CBD and inner ‘burbs are already reaching doughnut saturation levels, and nothing says ‘retail energy’ like a choc fudge brownie doughnut with milk choc glaze, heart sprinkles and brownie pieces on top (everyone knows calories don’t count if you eat them while you’re shopping).
In terms of dough-style, Dashing Donuts is probably close to the old Doughnut Time model...but with about two kilos less sugar. The idea isn’t just to add crazy sh*t on top and hope for the best. You can tell someone’s actually put some thought into these flavours.
We’ve tried pretty much everything on the menu, and these are our faves: Crème Brûlée bombolini piped with rum custard and glazed in sugar, the OG glazed (a play on the Krispy Kreme classic), and Tira-Miss-You—rich chocolate mousse with coffee and cream cheese in the centre, dusted with cocoa powder on top.
The dough itself is made using a traditional Italian recipe, baked fresh every morning. You can get your doughnuts in ‘Classic’, ‘Gourmet’, ‘Twisted’ or ‘Bombolini’ style (always bombolini, always mucho custard).
Dashing also makes custom doughnuts and doughnut bouquets (8 doughnuts of your choice, wrapped in paper and ribbon) if you want to get a little fancy. And you can wash it all down with homebrewed hot chocolate, iced coffee or boutique lemonade.
Yep, Melbourne’s doughnut addiction shows no signs of slowing down. Good news for us, bad news for our PTs (soz not soz).

Bloomwood
Nestled between skyscapers in the eternal hustle and bustle of Exhibition Street in the CBD, Japan-influenced bakery Bloomwood has carved a croissant-shaped hole in our hearts.
