Moonee Ponds is fast becoming one of our favourite suburbs for a brunch crawl, and one of the brightest venues on our breakfast trail is District North. The suburban cafe is much, much more than a spot for some avo on toast. Boasting a large daylight-filled space, a menu that's got enough variety without reading like a phonebook, and a range of boozy options for those of you who are hankering after a spritz to get the weekend started, the newcomer has been rocking our socks with its savoury and sweet dishes.

If you're the kind of Melburnian who loves starting the day with a healthy feed, the house granola and pandan pancakes (yup, they really are that green!) are cracking choices that are full of flavour. For heartier options, the Four Pillars gin-cured salmon with poached eggs, rosti and zucchini and pea shoot salad is a winner, as are the chorizo and green chilli croquettas. And with burgers, tacos and gnocchi for lunch, you certainly won't be going hungry.

However, it's the milkshakes, muffins and doughnuts that you'll want to leave room for. Peanut topped Snickers bar muffins, Malteaser doughnuts and a Sour Straps creation that's our new favourite food challenge all feature, making for a pastry selection that's totally drool-worthy. District North, we salute you!
