The Verdict

Brace yourself, Moonee Ponds. Dolce House just opened a second gelateria/dessert bar/sugar temple, and it’s landed on Mt Alexander Rd.

If you’ve ever been in McKinnon, you might have heard about these guys before. They’ve been slinging homemade waffles, cookie dough shakes (AKA ‘Dolshakes’), baked cheesecakes and cheek-puckering lemon gelato for yonks.

This is their long-awaited expansion, and owner Renato Gelic says Moonee Ponds was always on the cards.

“I wanted to bring Dolce House back home. I have fond childhood memories of growing up in the northern suburbs and before opening my own business worked as a head chef in a restaurant on Mount Alexander Road, several years ago,” he says.

This is good news for food-lovers. Bad news for the Moonee Ponds F45 scene—seriously, how are you going to stay away from white chocolate and pannacotta gelato, baked lemon curd tarts topped with frozen raspberries, or choc fudge ice-cream sandwiches? No-one has that sort of willpower.

The new store is mostly about gelato at the moment, but expect both the range (and your pants) to explode over the next couple of months. The McKinnon store has a cult southside following, and the in-house pastry chefs are always experimenting with new ideas. Just cop an eyeful of their spinning dessert boards...

Need a cherry on your sundae? Dolce House Moonee Ponds are giving away 500 scoops of ice-cream this weekend to celebrate the new launch. The promo is running from 5pm–7pm on Friday and Saturday.
