You can’t buy views like this. Well, you can. You can buy them at Doubletree By Hilton, perched opposite historic Flinders St station. In terms of location, Doubletree can’t be beaten. You’re 50m from Fed Square, a stone’s throw from the greatest laneway in the city (Centre Place), and surrounded by more bars, restaurants cafes and bruncheries than any normal human could visit in one lifetime.

The rooms are on the corporate side (you won’t get quite the double dose of personality as at, say, The Olsen) but the fittings are lavish and it still feels warm and welcoming. The beds are something special too: a patented Sweet Dreams® by DoubleTree. It’s a little like sleeping on a unicorn, or a thousand fluffy ducklings. Rooms come equipped with HD TVs, WiFi (for a charge), and a well-stocked minibar. There’s even a 24-hour fitness centre on-site.

Head downstairs for a bite of modern Australian at Doubletree’s elegant, Platform 270, or wander Flinders Ln in search of good grub. Trust us, you won’t have to wander too far. Just hook a left down Degraves St and follow your nose.
