Following the closing of The Press Club in March, the Flinders Street space underwent a speedy renovation before opening its doors as Elektra Dining Room in July this year. Whether you’re after a quick bite after work or before a show, a long lingering dinner or a late night date, this dimly lit intimate restaurant will go above and beyond to meet your needs. Led by former Executive Chef of The Press Club and current chef at Gazi, the small menu comprises of about ten dishes that are constantly changing each week.
Located in the heart of the CBD, general manager Joey Commerford welcomes guests into a modern-European dining room inspired by cuisines that have found their true home in Australia. The signature dish is a world-famous collaboration between Elektra and everybody’s Fitzroy obsession- Lune Croissanterie. It is a butter chicken vol-au-vent, which can be devoured after a pickled shitake taco and paired with some smoked cauliflower cheese dumplings. To finish, be naughty and get the whole salt-baked camembert and you won’t be leaving with regrets.
Elektra has a selection of classic cocktails and an impressive wine list with 30 outstanding interesting blends with Trofeo Estate from Mornington and Moric from Austria among them. The restaurant is classy yet modest, where guests sit in booths with comfy brown leather couches, brick walls and an extensive bar. So if you enjoyed eating at Gazi or The Press Club, why not try this more relaxed version of fine dining?
