the verdict

While there's certainly no shortage of wine bars in Melbourne CBD, finding one that balances culinary know-how with a perfectly curated wine list (one that doesn't take an hour to read...) can be tricky. Thanks to the team behind Carlton restaurant, The Town Mouse, there's a new kid on the Russell Street block that's serving fantastic tasting plates, alongside great wines and cocktails, all in a stunning space that's just the right balance between relaxation and sophisticaiton.

Finding the right space for The Town Mouse was a mission in itself. After refitting the entire venue, the kitchen team set about designing a menu that's all about morishness. From charcuterie to simple, expertly seasoned fresh vegetable dishes, local seafood to French cheeses, you'll want a mouthful of of just about everything that you can order. The drinks menu takes the same approach: Local heroes sit alongside European visitors, making for some of mouth-watering pairings.

As with all bars, it's the vibe that matters, and at Embla you'll feel perfectly at home whether you're sitting kitchen-side or parked at a more private table with a bottle of your choice. For you early birds, you'll find the eatery open from 8am serving coffee and pastries to Melbourne's most discerning on-the-go city folk. Whether it's a quick bite or an evening-lng session, you won't find a tastier spot in the CBD.
