The Verdict
Your favourite fried chicken and waffles is hitting Smith Street, and we’ve never been more excited to get our hands waffle-y dirty. Bringing their well-known, fried and tasted chicken recipe from Brunswick East—F.A.T Fried & Tasty serves six different types of chicken and accompanying American-style sides.
The original chicken or fried tenders are hard to go past, however if spice tickles your fancy, the hot wings or hot chicken are excellent options. Poutine, ladled with thick rich gravy and stringy shredded cheese is the dastardly rich option we keep coming back for. Other sides contending for the spotlight include mac ‘n cheese or chilli buttered corn.
Two pieces of F.A.T Fried Chicken on a buttermilk waffle with vanilla ice-cream and Canadian maple syrup toes the line between sweet and savoury. If you’d prefer to stick to one side of the spectrum, salted caramel and apple waffles are our pick.
A small range of beer on tap, wine and no-frills milkshakes (listen to your inner child and gun for the milo) means that you’ll be having a fried-day at F.A.T Fried & Tasty more often than not.
If you're a die-hard southsider, F.A.T Fried & Tasty's Fitzroy store will be loading up UberEATS orders so you get finger-licking chicken from the comfort of your couch.
