Flour + Salt
Keeping it simple and focusing on flavour is the mantra of this homely Italian eatery. Situated in the leafy surroundings of Fairfield, their authentic style has made it a must-visit for locals. Sitting right on the corner of Station Street, Flour + Salt welcomes you in with an infectiously laid-back atmosphere. Flour + Salt is the second brainchild of John Kanellakos who joined the Fairfield renaissance when opening Fifteen Pounds back in 2012.
Inside the black brick interior, you’ll find authentico italiano food with a homestyle feel. Everything is made in-house so there’s no skimping on quality (or quantity, in true Italian style!). From the casarecce to the pizze, there are some seriously divine combinations for a carbohydrate feast.
The team have also been developing a series of vegan-friendly dishes (a bit of a rarity, in the Italian world). Tasty options including the Green Pizza with broccoli puree, garlic, cauliflower, porcini mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, crispy kale, chilli, and truffle oil are promised on the menu. And if you’re feeling a need for cheese you can pile on some ‘Notzarella’—a vegan mozzarella substitute that stacks up bloody well against dairy cheese.
To finish, there are house-made Italian doughnuts that arrive with Nutella and cream. You’ll know where to find us this weekend.
