Fluffy Torpedo
The Verdict
Taking out the mantle for the best moniker for an ice cream store, Fluffy Torpedo is the latest by-the-scoop boutique to open up on Smith Street in Fitzroy.
Pivoting from your run-of-the-mill flavours and exploring the full potential of the dessert medium, Fluffy's approach incorporates left-of-centre combinations: from a Vegemite and white chocolate, Mountain Dew Oreo to the daring honey and soy sauce creation for the truly bold.
This isn't the first rodeo for the Fluffy Torpedo team, originally starting their small-batch ice cream operation as Stampede Gelato in Fremantle, Western Australia, a resounding favourite for the region.
Their Melbourne venture has been Designed more as an interactive exhibition space than a gelato store; the inside is a kitschy mix of colour and artwork with clear gloss floors filled with a colourful combination of sour straps and plastic ice cream spoons.
Aside from the daring flavours, it's the charitable component of Fluffy Torpedo that sets it aside from the rest, donating 50c per scoop to The Life You Can Save—that's an ice cream cone you can feel good about.
