The verdict

When we're stuck in the CBD on a Friday night and someone says, 'Okay, what's for dinner?' Most of the time the answer comes back: 'Dunno. Fonda?'

There's a reason this place packs out every night. Fonda does some of the best Mexican in the city. You'll find the restaurant at the top end of Flinders Ln, nextdoor to Cumulous Inc (the space used to be Virginia Plain and Mercy). Flinders Ln was the third Fonda digs, but it quickly proved a hit with the after-work CBD crowd. It's close to the theatres (tick), it's cheap (tick) and it's bloody delicious (double tick).

Better yet? Fonda just unleashed a brand new menu.

A lot of your old favourites are still there. Pulled pork quesadillas with guajillo chillies and pickled onion. Chopped beef burritos with shredded cabbage, chipotle aioli and crunchy quinoa (they'll never take that guy off the menu). But the old Chicken Salad is gone, replaced with a new Bounty Bowl, plus a few other fresh faces. Pulled pork or Kingfish ceviche tostadas with chillies, avocado and toasted pepitas. Freaking nom, people.
