Fonda | Hawthorn

A lot of Fonda fans forget there's one in Hawthorn. It tends to take a backseat to Flinders Ln or Chapel St. But that's a real shame, because Fonda Hawthorn has a character all its own.

You couldn't really ask for a better location—right opposite Hawthorn station and with the Lido cinema 'round the corner. In terms of pre-movie dining, you can't really go past a cheeky cerveza and taco combo. But just when you're about to order the beef burrito AGAIN (no judgement, we do it all the time), Fonda goes and ups the ante with a new-look menu.

Now don't stress, they kept most of your favourites, including the chargrilled corn with queso, lime and chipotle aioli (this thing gives Mamasita a serious run for its money). But there are some new additions that definitely deserve a little pondering.

For instance, you COULD go the old-school tacos, or you could splash out and try the new Yellowfin Tuna Ceviche Bowl. Hands down one of the best things we've eaten all year: tender hunks of blushing tuna sitting in a chilli-lime coconut milk broth, topped with forbidden black rice and avocado, and served with a side of tortilla crisps. We dunno what they put in that broth, but it shouldn't be legal. Waaaay too addictive.
