The Verdict
Grazia is the latest addition to the culinary community of Glen Iris. The Italian restaurant pays homage to Sicilian food with a modern flair. Inspired by his heritage, Executive Chef and co-owner Joe Di Cintio serves up hearty Italian fare with a contemporary spin.
Located just a stone's throw from Central Park in Glen Iris, the 100-seater diner features a contemporary but warm design. From the front, the venue is deceptively small; however, the restaurant spans across two levels and is filled with glowing lighting, Italian marble, and Venetian plaster wall finishes. The scattered greenery and soaring atrium ceiling that creates a natural light source all add to the inviting feel of the eatery.
The menu includes a decent amount of Assaggini (small plates) and antipasti (entrées) to share—like the roasted pumpkin, smoked scamorza, and rosemary arancini; or battered zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta, gorgonzola, pecorino, and mozzarella. There’s a handful of raw fish dishes, plus mains like the fish of the day or escalopes of crumbed baby veal served with roasted vine-ripened tomatoes, rocket pesto, and Pecorino Romano.
Crowd favourites include al-dente pasta like tortellini filled with wild mushrooms, creamy porcini and black truffle sauce; and pillowy potato gnocchi with eight-hour-braised beef cheek, green peas, and Parmigiano.
Pizza makes up a strong portion of the menu and is carefully baked in an Italian Castelli pizza oven, just one of two of its kind in all of Australia. Try classics like Margherita or Capricciosa Diavolina, but also unique combinations like the 'Zucc' which is topped with pumpkin puree, mozzarella, pine nuts, goat’s cheese, caramelised onion, and hot honey. For seafood lovers, dig into the Gamberoni Grazia with mozzarella, king prawns, rocket pesto, green olives, and Chef Di Cintio’s signature Chilli Crisp.
Finish on a sweet note with a classic tiramisu or a zesty Bombe Alaska composed of semifreddo al limone, candied lemon gel, Pan di Spagna, and burnt meringue. A collection of gelatos churned on-site is also available, with flavours frequently rotating.
As for drinks, there’s an aged Negroni on offer that ferments in a barrel for about a week and many other classic cocktails to choose from. As for vino, there’s a solid variety of local and imported Italian varietals to complement your meal.
