The Verdict

Owners and siblings Charlotte and James Tizzard are keeping it real with their weekend dive bar operation, Hard Rubbish, in deepest Preston. On a shoestring budget, sourcing their retro chic décor from Gumtree and a bitta hard rubbish (of course), the pair have successfully converted the old massage parlour (yep, the kind you’re thinking of) into a bar where the locals flock to drink and snack.

The food menu is basic, including 3 flavours of jaffle served with a pile of corn chips, but let’s face it—isn’t that really all we want when we’re drinking? And for $6, you can’t be whingeing. As for the booze, the beer is crafty and largely local and the wine list is narrowed down to 4 options.

Head down to this neighbourhood gem this weekend for a pint, jaffle and guaranteed good vibes.
