The Verdict

Hall Street in Newport just gained a brand spanking new cafe. And it’s not only a cafe, but also a retailer and cooking school as well. Hot damn!

(In other news, when did Melbourne get a Newport? What is this, the OC?)

Heart of Hall is an all-inclusive, new culinary project—the brainchild of Stacey Krbaleski and Nicole Walker. They wanted to create an inspiring, hands-on space, stuffed with food, coffee and people...and then whack on an A-Grade cooking school. Mission accomplished.

While the cafe dishes up roasts from Small Batch Coffee, their Masterchef-style cooking classes are run by legendary chef Chef Kate McKay, who has worked in Jamie Oliver’s restaurant, Recipease, as both the Breakfast Chef and Cooking Instructor. (Teach us how to make the best Eggs Benny in Oz, please?)

Now, the curriculum. This is where it gets really good. The cooking classes at Heart of Hall range from Cheese Making (a very useful skill), Pasta 101 (be still, my arteries), Spanish Feast (count us in), and Keeping It Real and Raw (for you vegan-ites). Once you’re done learning how to be a pro in the kitchen, you can add "pasta making chef" to your Tinder profile, or just walk your wallet to the in-house shop to buy all the gadgets you need to make the best Spanish feast in the world. Or both.

Heart Of Hall is basically an open space to let your culinary dreams run wild (but no running with knives, please) and nom on some mouth-watering treats along the way. Why didn't we think of this earlier? Genius stuff.
