The Verdict
When a restaurant has a 15ft purple Kraken erupting on its outside wall, you know it’s going to be seriously into seafood.
But Hide n’ Seek Fish n’ Chippery doesn’t stop at frying creatures from the deep. It’s also knocking together some of the best burgers we’ve tasted in Melbs—not bad for a little shop out in Tullamarine.
But let’s start with the fish. There’s the usual suspects (flake, salmon and Barra), plus a grilled flounder and chargrilled octopus tentacles (if you want to kick things up a notch). Personally we’re a sucker for fried, but everything is available on the grill for the more health-conscious diners). The salt n’ pepper calamari is well seasoned, and there’s even junior packs for the little ones.
But where Hide n’ Seek pulls away from your corner chippery is the burger menu. They haven’t just got your basic ‘build-a-burger’—these guys are pumping out gnarly Wagyu patties and spicy deep-fried chicken breasts. Pick your poison and level up by adding a housemade potato cake (trust us—takes it to the next level). Need a recommendation? Go The Seek—a beef patty, 2 x cheese, lettuce, cooked onion, tomato, egg, bacon and Special Sauce.
The potato cakes are worth mentioning here—they're crispier and heftier than your generic freezer-fried stuff. Carved by hand and fried to perfection, they form graceful waves and curves. No two ever quite alike.
Now after all that you might be struggling for stomach space, but we recommend saving at least a little room for dessert. The banana fritters in here are fluffy, golden and light, stuffed with gooey banana goodness, and come dusted with cinnamon sugar. Whack on an Oreo milkshake and it’s happy sailing.
Seriously, this is one fish n’ chippery worth seeking.
