The VerdictJ
If you’ve ever sunk your teeth into the delectable creations from The Waffle Club at the Queen Vic Market, you’ll probably be having déjà vu right about now. That’s because Horse On Heels’ co-owners Connie and Lunnie began their journey at The Waffle Club three years ago and are now setting out to dominate Melbourne’s savoury waffle market.
Like any trendy North side (waffle specialty) brunch spot, Horse On Heels has an industrial feel to it, including the #instaready exposed brick wall, naked light bulbs, timber and some greenery for good measure. There’s an open kitchen where you can watch your waffle being made, as well as both indoor and outdoor seating areas.
You definitely need to start your brunch off with the taro latte, then move onto the popcorn chicken waffle. Don’t knock it until you try it! The chicken is crunchy and well seasoned, combined with creamy and tasty sauce on a light and delicious waffle. Or if you’re the more creative type, create your own mouth-watering waffle with toppings like salted caramel banana and dark chocolate ganache!
There’s not a lot of signage out the front, so keep an eye out for the black-gated entrance of the brown brick Graham Engineering Co workshop and you’ll soon be enjoying some of the best waffles in Melbourne!
