THE VERDICT

Blackburn’s got a new cafe on the block, and we recommend you introduce yourself quick-smart. Located right by Laburnum station in Blackburn, The Joy Parade is a pocket of tasty goodness, using Australian produce and following a mindset of keep it simple, and do it well.

And that they do, with a range of dishes to satisfy any appetite.

For the sweet tooths out there, we’re talking homemade coconut bread topped with seasonal fruits and a side of vanilla pannacotta, or a brioche French toast oozing with lemon curd, berry compote and rich mascarpone. Our personal fave, that one.

If you’ve got a salt craving (us, always), The Joy Parade’s got roasted, spiced pumpkin with dukkah, hummus and feta, drizzled with pomegranate molasses. Or how about the ‘Smash and Hash’—a tasty concoction of crisp potato hash with rocket pesto, bacon, roasted tomato and goats cheese.

We know what we’re ordering (one of each, please). Wash it down with an Allpress coffee and you’re in for quite the joyful morning.

When your stomach can’t take anymore, work off the calories as you peruse their giftware, sourced from a range of eco-friendly and socially conscious brands like Red Hill Candle Co and Bondi Wash.

Note: Number of calories burned will vary depending on the number and enthusiasm of your laps.
