THE VERDICT

Fire and spice and all things nice are the name of the game at Juni, the moody, neon clad pan-Asian diner on Exhibition Street. By chef Michael Lambi, who you’ll recognise from Lucy Lui and an illustrious career spanning Stokehouse, Lamaros, Taxi and The Smith to name a few, alongside head chef Hendri Budiman.

The pair have crafted the menu to be bold, like traditional Asian cuisine. Start your feasting with snacks and small dishes designed to warm you up for the show stopping mains. We’re talking perfectly seared tuna tataki paired with ginger and wasabi dressing, sizzling half-shell scallops drizzled with spicy tom yum brown butter, or togarashi-spiced cauliflower. As for the mains, you can expect to gorge on dry-aged chinese duck with cucumber, pickled daikon, spicy Hoi Sin and pancakes; steamed barramundi fillets accompanied by black bean, ginger flowers and leeks, or a Japanese pumpkin and eggplant curry with lychee and hot mint. The cocktail list is bumping and the wine list is accessible, with some high end gear for those special occasions.
