La Cabra Mordialloc
THE VERDICT
Self-proclaimed G.O.A.T of Mexican restaurants, La Cabra are set to take their chill vibe and tangy flavours to Melbourne’s Bayside, heading for Main Street in Mordialloc.
Set just back from the beach (and only metres from the train station), the new venue is La Cabra’s ninth and biggest to date — housed across three levels in a heritage building, complete with a rooftop deck and stunning views across the bay. Perfect for watching the sunset with a spicy marg in hand, if we do say so ourselves.
Speaking of margaritas, there’s four varieties on offer (including rotating frozen margs), all made on Herradura. Foodwise, you’ll find all the favourites on the Mordi menu—think chargrilled corn, jalapeno poppers, nachos, quesadillas, and plenty of tacos to boot.
Staying true to the La Cabra vibe, the downstairs restaurant is decked out with kitschy interiors including a vibrant wall mural, neon signs and an open kitchen. Here, there’s also a 40-seat outdoor courtyard with a retractable roof and heaters to accommodate Melbourne’s fickle weather.
Be sure to pop in on the second week of summer (December 7-13) to celebrate the launch of the new Mordialloc base. The weather is bound to be top notch, and the team will be slinging $10 margaritas and pints, and $5 tacos and pots for the whole week.
On top of their opening week special anyone who dines at the Mordi La Cabra from 13 January to 30 March, 2025 will go into the draw to win a week-long trip to Mexico. This once-in-a-lifetime trip for two people is inclusive of accommodation, flights and the winners will be taken on a tour of Mexico’s iconic Casa Herradura Tequila Distillery, just rack up $50 on your bill and you'll be in with a shot.
La Cabra has locations in Ballarat, Carlton, Hampton, Hawthorn, Mornington, St Kilda, Carnegie and South Yarra.
