The Verdict

Contemporary painter David Larwill was known for bright, punchy colours, and you’ll cop an eyeful as soon as you enter Larwill Studio’s dreamy lobby space. Six giant canvases hang on the wall, paired with some slick mid-century furniture. You wouldn’t expect anything less from The Arts Series—these guys have pretty much redefined boutique Melbourne accommodation over the last few years.

The Larwill is one of their more recent projects: contemporary design oasis in Parkville, a hop skip from Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne University, Queen Vic Markets and Flemington Racecourse (give this place some serious consideration come Spring Carnival time).

The location’s only half the story. All rooms come equipped with stunning Larwill prints, air-con, artisan textiles and linens and iPhone docking stations. Bonus: you also get a yoga mat and a couple of handpicked yoga meditation guides. Get your Zen on in the morning, then hire one of the Lekker bikes on-site and pedal your way through the leafy streets of Parkville.
