The Verdict
Loch & Key is hidden up a rickety staircase, behind a bookcase in Melbourne’s oldest pub, Captain Melville, and has certainly perfected the rabbit warren-esque, quaint cabin style. With humble finishes, dimly lit nooks and crannies, and a hint of gentlemen’s club, this bar is the ideal Melbourne venue, plus it’s one of few places that stays open until 5am (and 7am on Saturdays). This is only made better by the exceptional service you’ll receive from the bartenders. Although the cocktail menu is on the smaller side, the bartenders are more than happy to mix you up your own creation depending on what you’re in the mood for.
They’ve also got a range of boutique beers and wines if you want to keep it simple. Getting hungry? Food offerings are modest and delicious, with the signature pork belly slider brought from downstairs. Perhaps the best feature of Loch & Key is its spacious balcony terrace, with a view of the city and good music from Melbourne DJs.
