The Verdict

Lokall co-owners Dean Little and Steve Lim met five years ago in the Supernormal kitchen and then across a few other of Andrew McConnell’s restaurants. Their paths diverged and then eventually reconnected to create one of the tastiest breakfast menus around.

“Conceptually, we see Lokall as being somewhere where anyone can come in and feel comfortable, to choose from an approachable menu that we've put the effort into,” says Steve. “It’s really reflected in things like the housemade pastries, our housemade Japanese white bread, the Katsu made from whole Bannockburn chicken…”

Lokall also serves up classic pressed toasties, made-to-order hot sandwiches (peppered beef, Emmental, pickled jalapeno, tempura fish, dill mayo) and seasoned brown rice bowls. There’s also a range of daily pastries, a selection of ten changing salads, a chicken and tarragon ready-to-take sandwich on house-made bread and...do we need to go on?

Actually, we do. Let’s talk about this bread. The perfectly square, perfectly fluffy loaf of Japanese bread is called shokupan and it is crazy delicious. A thick slice of that, a smattering of three different types of cheeses and a little time in the oven makes for pretty much the perfect cheese toast ever. And if you’re looking for something with more protein, their Chicken Katsu with Bulldog Mayonnaise sells out almost every day.

Lokall is located on the edge of a corporate business park, but don’t be shy—they’re fully open to the public, Monday to Friday from 6:30 am - 4 pm.
