The Verdict

Set out in the winding roads and hills of Ferntree Gully, Lorna is that reliable favourite. A popular option for those who’ve braved the nearby 1000 steps track, the white-washed venue has a breezy and spacious feel, large-shaped booth tables with olive green cushioned backs and long wooden bench seating that runs towards the back of the space.

Helmed by owners, Omar Viramontes and Josh O’Brien, the name Lorna comes from Omar’s own Grandma, who was an inspiration behind the venture. Lorna serves up a  colourful range of breakfast and brunch options alongside damn near perfected coffee with Industry Beans supplying the goods.

The menu changes seasonally but you’ll always find a range of options from the house-speciality, crumpets, loaded with lemon butter, lemon balm and macerated strawberries to the incredibly enticing chicken and waffles, with southern-style fried chicken on a cheesy waffle with a jalapeno maple sauce. Bottomless batch brew and pour-overs line up the coffee menu whilst you can keep things quite healthy with plant-based smoothies.

Whether you’re local to the region or just passing through, it’s one to add to the hit list.
