Lorna is Ferntree Gully’s newest brunch spot—and if we didn’t know better, we'd swear we were sipping strong flat whites on Church Street or something. The décor is bang on-trend. Simple, minimalist pastels that blow the lid right off any myths that you can’t get good food more than 20km from the city.
Lorna Cafe means a lot to co-owner, Omar Viramontes. He named it after his grandma, and tries to express his Mexican heritage through each and every dish. His partner in crime is co-owner Josh O'Brien.
This place has something for everyone on the menu—from locals and passers-through to health nuts who just slogged it out on the 1000 Steps nearby. Think homemade crumpets with lemon curd, coconut custard and honeycomb. Or maybe a little turmeric scrambled eggs, served up with chorizo, banana peppers (note: not actual bananas) and potatoes on crusty sourdough.
For those of you looking for something more hearty, go the breakfast nachos. You’ve got chorizo, tomatillo salsa, black beans, cheesy goodness, onion and a fried egg. Yum, yum bloody yum. (We told you there was something for everyone).
There are also tons of options for little ones, teas and pressed juices. Oh and coffee, all of the coffee. The guys are slinging a Niccolo house blend, and stock a (frankly) enormous variety of milk. Soy, almond, coconut, lactose-free—pick your poison and go nuts. Personally, we're coming back for another glass of the Naked Life: lemonade with cucumber, lemon citrus squash, ginger and pomegranate. You'll feel like you can 1000 Steps all over again...
