The Verdict

If funky skull-art and pops of colour are any indication, you can expect to satisfy your Mexican food cravings at Mi Mexiko. Whipping up all your favourites, from tostaditas to quesadillas, this is some of the best Mexican on the Mornington Peninsula.

This place is built for a day-trip with a couple of mates. The menu is mostly shared plates like DIY Beef cheek tacos, cauliflower three ways (cauliflower addicts, you need to try this thing) or the juicy the Pork Tacos: slow-cooked pork hock, black molasses molé, anchiote chilli, green apple and fennel slaw, and crackling on top.

Mates can also share a dark choc brownie, served with honeycomb, gelato and a cinnamon tortilla, or sink your teeth into some roasted pineapple with Snickers ice-cream and polenta cake. Entrees include flavour-popping stuff like spiced chicken wings and fatty lamb ribs, or Nopal (Cacti pads) with jalapeno and tomatilla salsa.

If you’re able to pull your Snapchat away from the awesome skull art behind the bar, the rest of Mi Mexiko is decked out in matte black and bright pinks, blues and greens. All your basic ingredients for a fiesta.

No Mexican restaurant would be complete without some kickass margaritas. There’s the Mi Mexiko’s House Mix for all your tequila needs and plenty of cocktails to sip away at. Mi Mexiko also offer take away through their official app. Tacos are up for some long-distance love, but the team at Mi Mexiko do warn that tacos don’t travel so well. But if you’re willing to risk it for the biscuit, order away.

Doors open Monday at 5pm and noon for the rest of the week.
